Extracurricular ActivitiesSportsBasketball- Grade 6 students interested in inter-school basketball are introduced to the game. Students play against a variety of schools and participate in a tournament at the end of April Cross Country Running- starts in September and continues through October. The students are challenged to develop endurance and strengthening activities. Intramurals- students are encouraged to participate at their grade level during lunch hour. Grade one and two students will participate on alternate Mondays. Grade three and four students will participate on alternate Fridays. Grade five and six students will participate on alternate Wednesdays. Please check the calendar on this web page for the actual dates for each class. Activities will vary at each grade level and will emphasize fun, participation and cooperation. Initiatives Club- grade 4, 5, and 6 students will have the opportunity to participate in an outdoor pursuit activity that will be off campus. Some of the activities include swimming, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and canoeing. All activities will promote the students mind, body, and spirit. Ski Club - Grades four-six students get an opportunity to ski at Rabbit Hill. We have four planned trips out to the site. This a pay-per-use program. Track and Field- All students from ECS to Grade Six participate in the Robert Rundle track and Field Meet. The school meet will be May 31st and parents are invited to watch or help out with the various events. Students in grade four, five and six who finish in the top two positions in each event have the opportunity to go to the District Track Meet on June 10th at Fowler Track. Volleyball - Grade six interschool volleyball tournament students are introduced to the basics of the game and learn sportsmanship and commitment. Students get the chance to play against a variety of schools. Fine ArtsCeramics - Offered at lunch hour, this user pay group exposes students to the art of ceramics. Choir- students in grades one through six have the opportunity to join the Division I or II choir. Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch time. Drama - Offered after school, this user pay group exposes students to the art of drama. Leadership & LifeskillsComputer Club- a weekly lunchtime activity for grades three-six. Students are given the opportunity to enhance and refine their computer skills. Environmental Club- students take an active role in maintaining the environment. Students are given an opportunity to participate first hand in the three R's. Homework Club - Grade four to six students who choose to participate in this after school activity will receive extra help in their daily homework. The program runs Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30. Please phone or email Mr. Durksen for further information. Patrols - Grade six students have the opportunity to help keep their fellow students safe when crossing the streets. All students in the patrols are trained by the Alberta Motor Association. The Patrols are active every morning and lunch as well as after school. Student's Association- is a service oriented group that promotes Character Education and models parliamentary procedures. This is a great way to develop citizenship and provide community service. |
